U.S. Import Tariffs & DHL Fees

Important Information for U.S. Orders Since August 2025

This page explains the U.S. import rules that have applied since August 29, 2025. This information is especially important for first-time customers and returning customers placing their first order since the rule change.

Import tariffs and DHL customs-related fees are not included in our product prices, shipping fees, or free shipping offers. These charges are billed separately by DHL and must be paid before delivery.

Why Am I Being Charged?

On August 29, 2025, the United States ended duty-free de minimis treatment for low-value international shipments. As a result, orders shipped from Japan to the United States are subject to applicable import tariffs and customs-related fees regardless of the order value.

These are import charges assessed by U.S. Customs and DHL. They are not additional fees introduced or collected by Everglow Cosmetics.

How Much Will I Be Charged?

Most Japanese-origin cosmetics are currently subject to an import tariff of approximately 12.5% of the declared customs value.

Because orders are processed in JPY, we convert the merchandise value into USD when preparing the customs documents, using the current JPY/USD market exchange rate at the time of shipment. The customs value is declared in USD to ensure that the currency and value are clearly identified during customs clearance.

This declared USD value may differ from—and is generally lower than—the amount shown on your credit card or bank statement. Banks and card issuers may use their own exchange rates and add currency conversion or foreign transaction fees.

Import tariffs are calculated based on the declared USD customs value, not the final USD amount charged by your bank or card issuer.

The exact tariff rate and final amount are determined by U.S. Customs based on factors including:
- Product classification
- Country of origin
- Declared USD customs value
- U.S. import regulations in effect at the time of entry

DHL also currently charges a Duty Tax Processing fee of $17.50 or 2.5% of the total duties, taxes, and other regulatory charges, whichever is higher. Additional customs or regulatory fees may apply in some cases.

Tariff rates and DHL fees are subject to change. Everglow Cosmetics cannot guarantee the final amount in advance.

Does Free Shipping Cover These Charges?

No. Free shipping covers only the cost of transporting your order from Japan to the United States.

It does not cover import tariffs, taxes, DHL processing fees, or other customs-related charges.

How and When Do I Pay?

After your order has been shipped, DHL will contact you directly by email or SMS if payment is required.

Payment must be made directly to DHL before your package can be released for delivery. Once payment is completed, DHL will continue processing the shipment for customs clearance and delivery.

Everglow Cosmetics does not collect this payment.

What Happens If I Do Not Pay?

DHL is generally unable to deliver a package until all required import charges have been paid.

If payment is refused or remains unpaid, the shipment will be abandoned and disposed of locally in accordance with our Shipping & Returns Policy. It will not be returned to Japan, and no refund will be issued.

Questions About the Amount Charged

If you believe the amount is incorrect or would like a detailed breakdown, please contact DHL U.S. directly using your tracking number.

Import charges are calculated by U.S. Customs and DHL, so Everglow Cosmetics cannot modify, waive, or refund them.
